In 1992, I was
driving down a street and saw a beautiful dog tied on a chain under a tree.
I stopped and asked about the
dog . The lady said it was an Akita, the first time I ever knew anything about
the breed. She offered me the
female, and yes, I took her in a heart beat. In less than 72 hours she was
deadly sick and I had to put her down. It killed me. My vet ran tests and she was poisoned. I couldn't
believe it. We bonded so fast, were at each others hip and she was smart as a
whip.
This is when I knew I had
to have another Akita. So I started checking out books and learning about the
breed. I was hooked right away.
I met a lady that bred Akitas and we started going to dog shows and
watching and learning. Then we got our Akitas entered and started showing our
dogs.
I purchased my first female Akita in 1993, a pinto female, NESKA.
I
showed her some and learned from her. Went to many conformation classes and got
a better idea of how to present my Akita. She was older than two before I started showing her. Her first show
she was naked as can be but I didn't know any better. But as time went on, I
learned and met many nice people . One lady was willing to show me how to groom
an Akita.
I starting helping friends with their show dogs and I traveled 2
juniors with me at shows and they even showed my Akitas as
well.
In 1999 I got married to a
handler, Ted F Browning, started showing all breeds and was out traveling every
weekend. Ted retired, I am
still out showing clients dogs, and back into my breed again, showing my
Akitas. Thanks to Jodi Lundin
and Marcie Howard..... We are
on are way to great things at TeeTime
Akitas.
